Church Council and Smorgasbord Smorgasbord was discussed at church council last week and it was decided to postpone or cancel the meal. We will revisit the topic at the beginning of October and possibly schedule a less demanding "take out" meal for later in October. Reasons for doing this are as follows;
It was noted that many of our neighboring churches have cancelled their fall suppers.
So many of our customers are older out of towners who travel some distance for a traditional scandinavian sit down dinner. Can we count on them to join us for a take out meal with far fewer of the traditional dishes they are used to receiving?
Many of our volunteers are older vulnerable adults who should not be working together or serving together at a meal of this nature during a time of pandemic illness. We might not have the volunteers needed to put together the kind of meal we used to serving.
The pandemic is supposed to get worse and possibly even spike in mid October when we usually have smorgasbord.
It is not known how the epidemic will affect school, confirmation, etc. It would not be very wise to have a community meal, just as the school is temporarily being closed because of an outbreak of covid (which is a possibility).
We would like to have Smorgasbord but we would also like to be as safe as possible for the people working and attending. We can always have Smorgasbord next year, but it would be hard to make it up to people who got sick at a meal we served this year. We are trying to be safe for the sake of both the servers and the public.
